Lingering

To look with my own eyes for a moment too long
the strike, the pain begins in a place deep and undiscovered
the bone to the muscle, the blood under the skin
meets the air with a silent breath
and the world moves on
like you never touched me

What sweet release is this, found and lost all at once
the beauty hidden behind your eyes
piercing, sharp like broken shards of light
and little did you know, the fragments you left
drifted through the space between
and never left the air, suspended in my lips

What will be when the wind has died?
